Students at the University of Washington are working to create a safer campus, especially after a number of violent crimes near or on campus.

The Associated Student of UW want to upgrade around campus with LED bulbs, instead of the current high pressure sodium lightbulbs. LED bulbs would provide more light on campus and help keep students safe.

Campus police said that the crimes this year are serious, this is not out of the ordinary.

ASUW has a few other suggestions for staying safe on campus:
- Be aware and alert in your surroundings
- Find someone to walk with, especially when it's dark
- Don't leave valuables unguarded
