SEATTLE -- You might want to break out the purple and gold as the University of Washington celebrates its 150th anniversary Friday.

Special events are planned all over Seattle to celebrate "W Day."

Huskies around the world are encouraged to wear purple and join the festivities. And it could pay to show school spirit - several businesses in Seattle's U-District will offer discounts to customers wearing purple and gold Friday.

Search engine BING marked the UW's anniversary by featuring a view inside the school's Suzallo Library on its homepage.

Several events were also planned at the various UW campuses:

Seattle campus, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.: University President Michael Young leads a pep rally in Red Square, along with Huskies athletes and basketball coach Lorenzo Romar.

UW Tacoma campus, 12:30-1:30 p.m.: Celebration and cake in the Academic Building.

UW Bothell campus, 1-2 p.m.: Celebration, music and cupcakes outside the bookstore.

Are you wearing purple and gold to mark the UW's birthday? Send us pictures of your Husky spirit to Your News or on Facebook.

vomit. i work there. they suck. how much money did they spend on this bulls*** when i haven't gotten a pay raise in the past three years, and am on of those people that make under $27,000 a year from these jerks. how bout instead of spending a small fortune - i bet it tops one million, you give your employees that actually work (aka not professors) a raise so we can afford to live! ugh i hate the uw. and before i get flak for this, i have been looking for a job for years when i found out how horrible they treat real employees. 150 years of lies.

I hear keynote speakers will be Rick Neuheisel, Billy Joe Hobert, and millionaire R. Mark Emmert.
