SEATTLE -- June is a time for graduations across Western Washington. In Seattle, there's a special group of students who are the first in their families. Forty-three Rainier Scholars were accepted by prestigious and Ivy League schools.
The Rainier Scholars Program looks for highly motivated and hardworking students of color from low-income backgrounds. Scholars work intensely with instructors in grade school through high school and into college. During the Rainier Scholars academic boot camp, students take extra classes after school and on the weekends to develop strong reading, writing and math skills.
