There's always a diverse selection of events during the weekends in western Washington. Seattle Times features editor Lynn Jacobson shares her top picks for "what's going on" in the next few days.

Seafair Milk Carton Derby Races

Boats of all shapes and sizes made of empty milk cartons compete for prizes at this high-drama and high-spirited annual event at Green Lake. There will also be kids' entertainment and vendors along the lakeshore. Registration for the races begin at 8:30 a.m. and the awards ceremony is at 3 p.m.

Bicycle Sunday

Lake Washington Boulevard will be closed to traffic from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. between Seward Park and Mt. Baker Beach for people to walk, bike or skate along one of Seattle's most scenic roads.

Sub Pop Anniversary shows

Seattle's Sub Pop Records celebrates its 25th anniversary with a benefit comedy show on Friday at Moore Theatre and a series of free concerts in Seattle's Georgetown neighborhood on Saturday. The lineup includes Eugene Mirman, Mudhoney and Shabazz Palaces.
