A tearful 2012 interview in which Dustin Hoffman recounts his struggles and discoveries while filming "Tootsie" is going viral.
In the film, Hoffman played a struggling actor who couldn't find work until he landed the female lead on a soap opera.
Hoffman said he was was shocked at how eye-opening the role was for him.
"I think I am an interesting woman when I look at myself on screen," he recalls telling his wife before making the movie.
"And I know that if I met myself at a party, I would never talk to that character because she doesn't fulfill, physically, the demands that we're brought up to think women have to have in order for us to ask them out," he said. That's when Hoffman catches himself as he gets a bit emotional.
The American Film Institute interview has set off a whole new discussion about what physical appearance means to both men and women.
