The daughter of former Yankees manager Joe Torre made a life-saving catch in Brooklyn on Wednesday when she caught a baby who fell off a fire escape, NBC 4 New York reports.
Cristina Torre was sitting at a cafe when she heard someone scream that a baby was on the fire escape. Torre, a Montessori preschool teacher, sprang into action, placing herself beneath where she thought the boy would fall.
The boy slipped and fell from the fire escape, hitting an awning on the way down. But Torre was there to catch him.
"Luckily, he just landed in my arms. I feel quite lucky that I was just in the right spot and was able to catch him and he's alive," Torre said.
Police said the parents were asleep when the one-year-old boy wandered to the window. They have been charged with child endangerment.
