Real or fake
It’s been a long time since actor Jean-Claude Van Damme was a household name. A new video that has gone viral may change that.
Van Damme, 53, who is known for spectacular martial arts stunts is featured in a Volvo commercial in which he does the splits between two moving semi trucks. His feet are perched atop the side view mirrors of the trucks.
A graphic on the commercial says it’s to demonstrate the “stability and precision of Volvo Dynamic Steering.”
Volvo claims the stunt is real and was done in one take, according to the Wall Street Journal. The company says Van Damme’s feet were not secured to the mirrors, but he was rigged so that he wouldn’t hit the ground if he fell.
The company also said they felt driving backwards would be the ultimate test of the steering system.
The video was posted to YouTube Wednesday and was viewed nearly 8 million times as of Friday morning.
Your first thought might be that this is all computer-generated. But as Van Damme showed in his 1988 movie “Bloodsport,” he can do the splits like nobody’s business
