Dove has made an online advertisement that has many people talking.
Earlier this week, Dove released an ad on YouTube that tackles the issues of women and self-image, and the video's lesson is powerful for anyone. The ad is part of Dove's Real Beauty campaign.
To explain the project, Dove shares this below the video: "Women are their own worst beauty critics. Only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful ... we decided to conduct a compelling social experiment that explores how women view their own beauty in contrast to what others see."
In the three-minute spot, women sit down with a retired police forensic artist and describe themselves. The artist doesn't see them before or during the sketch.
Then the artist sketches each woman based on the description from a stranger who spent a few minutes getting to know each woman.
At the end, the women pictured in the sketches are shown the two finished pieces--the one they described next to the one based on another's description.
Without giving away the whole ad, we will say it definitely makes you think.
