The City of Bothell says the city prosecutor has charged Cal Pygott with making a false or misleading statement to a public servant and with obstructing public officers.
Police transcripts say Pygott, 63, was attempting suicide but was spotted by another teacher after he changed his mind. He told police he made up the attack story to keep his reputation.
If convicted, Pygott could face 364 days in jail and a $5,000 fine for each charge. Pygott is expected to answer to the charges Sept. 20.
The Northshore School District placed Pygott on paid administrative leave.
