CAMAS, Wash. – A man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly trying to rob a convenience store with an ax, according to police.

Around 10 a.m. Keki Kiril Silva McKendree, 23, of Washougal, walked into the 7 Market at 3520 Northeast 3rd Avenue armed with an ax, said Officer Debrah Riedl with the Camas Police Department.

The clerk called police and said that McKendree was demanding money. McKendree then hurled the ax at the clerk, shattered a glass counter and fled the scene in a red Chrysler Sebring, Riedl said.

Police found the unoccupied car at the Port of Washougal. Officers and a K-9 tracked McKendree to the 2200 block of Southeast 12th Avenue and arrested him, police said.

The clerk suffered a minor abrasion to his head but did not require medical attention.
