State troopers shot a suspect after a pursuit in which the driver allegedly rammed a patrol vehicle.
It started Thursday, just before midnight, on State Route 99 near 196th Street in Lynnwood.
Washington State Patrol spokesman Trooper Keith Leary said a trooper was attempting to stop the driver for a lane travel violation. The driver didn’t stop and the pursuit began and continued to 175th street, where it ended.
Another trooper had responded to the incident. Leary said the suspect then rammed one of the two trooper vehicles.
At some point, both troopers fired at the suspect, said Leary. Details about why the troopers were compelled to fire remain under investigation. The suspect ran away on foot, but was caught a short time later and taken into custody. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg. His condition is not life threatening.
Nobody else was hurt.
Leary said drugs or alcohol may have been factors in the crash.
The troopers are being placed on administrative reassignment, which is standard procedure when a trooper fires his or her weapon.
