TACOMA, Wash. -- Six large windows at Tacoma’s Holy Cross Catholic Church were smashed overnight by a vandal who also left hate mail on the property’s lawn, according to police.
The suspect ran off before officers could catch him, but those at the church are confident it’s the same person they have a restraining order against for past vandal attacks.
Surveillance cameras hang above the damaged windows, but it’s unclear if they captured the incident.
“We’ve been through this before,” explained worshipper Steve Mullen. “And frankly, we’re sick and tired of it.”
The man Mullen is referring to is allegedly mentally ill and in the past has not only vandalized the church, but he’s harassed other parishioners and attacked the former pastor.
“We have had a lot of things happen here,” Mullen said. “If it wasn’t for the faith of these people, I don’t know where we’d be right now.”
Mullen said the vandal attack was not mentioned during Christmas services. Holy Cross declined to comment.
