The driver and passenger of a stolen SUV had to be rescued after the vehicle crashed into the corner of a building in south Seattle early Sunday. Police said the business, Emerald City Fish and Chips, sustained significant damage.

Around 2:15 a.m., a Seattle patrol officer saw a white 2002 Chevy Avalanche driving well over the speed limit. The vehicle nearly struck the patrol car as it went by.

According to the Seattle Police Department, the officer lost sight of the vehicle, but located minutes later at Rainier Avenue South and South Charlestown when it had collided with the corner of a building.

Seattle Fire had to cut out the driver, a 26-year-old male, and passenger, a 22-year-old female. Medics transported the pair to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic Collision investigators have taken over the case.
