Pierce County sheriff’s deputies are looking for man who dressed up as a delivery man and attacked a Spanaway woman at her home Friday morning.

The attack happened in the 19600 block of 15th Avenue East around 10 a.m. The victim, a 57-year-old woman, said a man she had never seen before wearing a brown delivery person's uniform knocked on her door and said he had a package for her. She thought it was safe to open the door, but she quickly learned it was a mistake.

"She said he tried to force his way in and she pushed and fought. I guess there are signs of struggle inside the house," said neighbor Vanessa Proctor.

The suspect broke into the house, stabbed the woman and duct taped her. He then stole her car.

Proctor said she heard frantic knocking on her door.

"It was frantic. It was pounding. I couldn't figure out who it was," she said.

When she eventually recognized the voice as her neighbor's, she opened her door and found her neighbor covered in blood, her head wrapped in duct tape.

"She started to lose oxygen, (I was) starting to get panicky. She couldn't breathe and stuff like that," said Proctor.

After she called 911, paramedics transported the victim to a Tacoma hospital where she was treated for critical injuries. She was scheduled to undergo surgery at St. Joseph Medical Center and was later upgraded to serious condition. She is expected to survive.

"It's amazing, absolutely amazing," said Proctor. "And I feel real bad."

Meanwhile, police found the victim's car abandoned a couple of blocks away, but there was no sign of the suspect, who still remains at large.

Police describe the suspect as a short Hispanic male wearing a brown uniform. If you have any information about the attack or the suspect, contact police.
