SEATTLE -- A 40-year man was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after gunfire erupted in Seattle's Rainier Valley just before 6 p.m. Sunday.

The victim was in his car when he was shot several times near Rainier Avenue South and South Othello Street, police said. He then drove 16 blocks south to a Rite-Aid parking lot on South Henderson Street where he waved down police. Medics rushed him to Harborview Medical Center.

Officers found a gun in the victim's vehicle.

No suspects were in custody as of Sunday night and it was unclear what led up to the shooting, police said.

One shot narrowly missed an innocent woman who was standing near her window making dinner.

"It was really loud," said the woman, who did not want to be identified. "I could clearly hear three gunshots."

The bullet pierced the window about two feet above her head.

"I'm so lucky," she said.
