Police: Man who shot Spokane deputies had 15 felony convictions

SPOKANE—The suspect police said is responsible for shooting two Spokane Sheriff’s deputies Tuesday was no stranger to law enforcement.

Charles R. Wallace, 41, killed himself near Deer Park after police said he shot two deputies conducting a traffic stop.

The suspect later carjacked a vehicle from an 85-year-old woman and then exchanged fire with law enforcement officers during a 40-mile high speed chase.

The two deputies remain listed in stable condition in a Spokane hospital on Wednesday.

Wallace had an extensive wrap sheet that spanned 18 years. In an official release from the Department of Corrections, it showed Wallace was convicted of 15 felonies.

  • Attempt to Elude, Class C Felony, 07/24/1998

  • Malicious Mischief, Class C Felony, 07/24/1998
  • Assault, Class C Felony, 07/24/1998
  • Attempt to Elude, Class C Felony, 01/20/1994
  • Forgery, Class C Felony, 09/13/1991
  • Malicious Mischief, Class B Felony, 07/29/1991
  • Burglary, Class B Felony, 12/13/1990
  • Theft, Class C Felony, 12/13/1990
