Olympia police said that a man involved in the theft of seven purses or diaper bags from Chuck E. Cheese had children steal the items for him.

Video surveillance showed the suspect, a man believed to be in his 40s, directing two children under 10 years old to take unattended property and bring it to him in the bathroom.

During a two month investigation, Olympia Police Department found that credit cards taken were used at a number of locations in Pierce and Thurston Counties.

On Wednesday, employees at the west Olympia Chuck E. Cheese spotted the suspect from the video accompanied by three children and called police.

The man and children left before police arrived, driving away from the Capitol Mall. However, employees were able to describe the vehicle and an officer stopped it a short distance away.

In the vehicle were a man, a woman and children, ages 7, 8 and 10.

Police arrested the 34-year-old man for suspicion of driving with a suspended license and an outstanding felony warrant.

Their investigation found that the man had been instructing the children to steal for him and had used stolen credit cards. He was booked into the Thurston County Jail on charges of forgery and the outstanding warrant.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Olympia PD at (360) 753-8205.
