A special anti-burglary task force in Marysville has netted 52 arrests in five weeks.
The Everett Herald reports the temporary team was assembled after an upswing in residential and commercial break-ins. Police estimate they have recovered about $8,000 in stolen goods
The formation of the strike team was partially motivated after the home of a Marysville couple was burglarized while they attended a funeral. It’s believed a number of the break-ins are being carried out by thieves who read the newspaper obituaries then hit homes while families are attending funerals.
The department has also identified five “hot spots” believed to be used by thieves and other criminals. Two of those places have been shut down through evictions.
