Seattle Police said two officers were punched in the face by a man drinking from an open bottle of Fireball whiskey and carrying marijuana in his backpack.

The 23-year-old man had been sharing the bottle of whiskey with three other individuals, two men and a woman, when the officers arrived at Seattle Central Community College in response to another call.

Police said the man attempted to leave the scene when officers asked one of the people for their I.D. When the female officer grabbed his backpack to stop him, the 23-year-old allegedly pushed her and punched her in the face.

Sergeant Sean Whitcomb reported that both officers then attempted to arrest the man and a scuffle ensued, during which the male officer was punched in the face. The man was arrested.

The female officer's husband, an on-duty SPD K-9 officer, arrived and allegedly made brief physical contact with the 23-year-old man. Officers immediately separated him from the suspect and kept him away.

The female officer received treatment at the scene from Seattle Fire Department and went to the hospital for a head injury and abrasions on her hands and feet.

The 23-year-old was treated at the East Precinct. A search of his backpack revealed a plastic bag containing what looked like about 3.8 grams of marijuana.

The suspect received additional treatment at Harborview Medical Center before he was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault.

An SPD Office of Professional Accountability complaint has been filed and is currently under investigation in regard to the K-9 officer.

The department's investigation of the incident is ongoing.
