OCEAN SHORES, Wash. - The Grays Harbor Coroner says a newborn girl found dumped in a wooded area in Ocean Shores on Friday died as a result of skull fractures and brain injuries due to blunt force injury to the head. The death is now being investigated as a homicide.
Detectives questioned the 21-year-old mother and her boyfriend Saturday.
According to police, a woman walking her dog spotted a rag hanging from brush and became suspicious. She looked closer and spotted the infant with obvious signs of injuries.
Police said tips from media coverage led them to the nearby Oasis Motel, where it’s believed the baby was born. Detectives found the 21-year-old mother and her boyfriend there.
The Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Department, Aberdeen Police Department and Hoquiam Police Department have teamed up for the investigation.
No arrests have been made.
