An employee of an Everett business shot a burglary suspect after a break-in Thursday, Everett Police said.

The suspect was taken to Providence Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The break-in happened at a real estate office on the 1800 block of Colby Avenue around 9:15 a.m.

An employee arriving for work saw the suspect and the two exchanged words, said Officer Aaron Snell with the Everett Police Department.

The employee, who had a gun, withdrew it and attempted to hold the suspect until police arrived.

The suspect then began throwing items at the employee, prompting the shot that injured him, Snell said.

The suspect then ran from the business, and officers tracked him down a few blocks away.

Police are interviewing both the employee and suspect. No determination on charges has been made yet.
