BELLEVUE, Wash. -- King County deputies arrested a 23-year-old man Fairwood man after a standoff in the parking lot of the 4800 block of Lakemont Blvd SE.

Officers were finally able to talk the armed suspect down around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday evening, after nearly four hours of negotiations with the shooter.

According to King County Sheriff's Office, the suspect is wanted in connection with a shooting that took place Monday in the Renton-Highlands area.   The victim of that shooting was shot in the leg.

Deputies located the suspect in Bellevue at about 6 p.m. on Wednesday. When officers approached him, he pulled out a gun, put in his his mouth, and threatened to kill himself.

That's when the SWAT shut down the entire area, which included a busy shopping center and a Thriftway grocery store.

"That's when they came on the intercom and said ladies and gentlemen, you can't leave the store," said customer Lisa Callan.

Her ten-year-old daughter says she was frightened to see armed officers standing just outside the store.

"They guy was like oh you can't go back outside, you can't go by the windows, there's a shooting going on," said Delaney Callan.  "He was just standing there, looking around with a big gun."

Thriftway and neighboring stores were on lock down for several hours.  One shopper trapped inside a store shot cell phone video of the scene.

Lakemont Boulevard SE was shut down between Village Park Drive and SE Newport Way, and traffic was re-routed for the duration of the standoff.

Authorities worried the suspect would hurt himself, his girlfriend, who was with him the whole time, or someone else.

Eventually, negotiators were able to lure the suspect's girlfriend away from his vehicle, where he'd been hiding out.  Just a few minutes later, they say he put up his hands and surrendered without incident.

The suspect's name has not yet been released.
