SEATTLE – Someone or a group of people opened fire on a stretch of Seattle businesses using a high-powered rifle and pistol late Thursday, police say.
Residents near the 9400 block of Rainier Avenue S. began calling police around 11 p.m. Five vehicles and four businesses were damaged in the gunfire.
Police believe more than 50 rounds were fired, likely from a vehicle, into Tino's Pizza, a barber shop, and a marijuana dispensary called Tree House Collective.
"We are very fortunate no one was hit," said Lt. Keith Swank."And we are also fortunate there were no shots fired on the other side of the street because there were people inside the hair salon."
Swank believes multiple weapons were used. At least one was using a 7.62x39mm round, commonly fired from a high powered rifle similar to an AK-47.
Jay Thompson lives nearby and was awoken by a sound he thought was thunder.
"It was loud, I looked outside to see if it was raining," he said. "This is sad. It's not supposed to happen."
Police have no suspects. They are looking at shell casings for DNA and fingerprints.
