It may be ghoulish, but I'm going to give the Pumpkin Masters Carving Kit a shot at my Halloween gourd. Joining me is David Roman, carver extraordinaire who's always been the family cut-up.
"I've been carving pumpkins since I was a little kid. At four, I was the designated pumpkin carver and it's continued on and it's spread and spread," he said.
His work is excellent. Mine, not so much.
David Roman: "These are good for kids and beginners."
Jesse Jones: "That's me, so let's get to work."
Here's how it works: Rip out a stencil, glue it to a pumpkin, and use one of the tools to trace the cut outs. It leaves a pattern. You then have to cut it out with one of their itty-bitty knives.
David Roman: "For kids especially young ones, this is the size they need to do something with."
The packaging has big pumpkins on it, but the tool can't really handle more than one. David says your best bet is a drywall saw.
He also has another tool in his arsenal, a chainsaw. He went all Jason from "Friday the 13th" on our pumpkin. No need for a scoop to clean out the insides, chainsaw works just fine for that and guts go flying everywhere.
After a few more cuts, David's massacre is over and what a pretty mess it is. As for the Pumpkin Masters Carving Kit...
"For adults this isn't going to work," said David. "It's really good for kids though, anyone under eight. Maybe you."
