SEATTLE - A Seattle law firm Friday filed a class-action suit in Federal Court against Japanese auto giant Toyota claiming the car maker acted in bad faith in selling cars that were ultimately recalled.
Attorney Christopher E. Green writes in his complaint that because of that those Toyota vehicles have either no value or are worth far less than what owners paid for them.
The civil action names a Clark County woman, but seeks to involve every owner of a recalled Toyota in Washington.
The move comes on the same day the District Attorney in Orange County, CA teamed up with a private law firm to go after Toyota.
"We demand to know: Did Toyota in their relentless pursuit to become the number one car maker in the United States put profits over people?" Tony Rackauckas told reporters.
Toyota has recalled millions of vehicles because of problems with accelerators. Several reports of cars speeding up on their own came from both sides of the country this week.
Toyota reacted to the California suit by issuing the following statement: "Toyota has not received the complaint and is not in a position to comment on pending litigation."
