Here are a couple of things going on this weekend, September 7-9, recommended by Lynn Jacobson, Features Editor of the Seattle Times.
1. The Puyallup Fair: It begins Friday, Sept. 7, and square-dances right through Sept. 23. On the concert stage, you'll see the usual array of country stars (Martina McBride, Tim McGraw); classic rock (Heart, Doobie Brothers) and pop acts (Train). Willie Nelson kicks it all off Sept. 7.

2. Strawberry Theatre Workshop's "This Land/Woody Guthrie": The great American troubadour was born 100 years ago, and his life and music are celebrated in this show presented by one of Seattle's most notable small theater companies. It's a mix of puppetry and live performance, and it runs through Oct. 6 at the Erickson Theatre on Capitol Hill.
