TACOMA, Wash. – Expect some delays and backups on Pacific Avenue near the Tacoma Dome for the next 11 months as Sound Transit expands the reach of its Sounder commuter train.

Pacific Avenue is closed between S. 25th Street and S. 27th Street. Pacific Avenue is being lowered up to 18 feet so a new rail bridge can be built over it. During the temporary closure, crews will also install new crossing gates and other safety equipment and provide landscaping to the area.

"Once it is complete next year, we will be able to deliver Sounder service in the south end, some 8,000 to 9,000 people a day," said Kimberly Reason with Sound Transit.
