Jake J. Musga, 19, pleaded guilty to the murder and rape of his girlfriend's 2-year-old son, C.C., Monday. Musga was charged with Murder in the First Degree and Rape of a Child in the First Degree.
In his plea, Musga acknowledged the crimes warrant an exceptional sentence. While the standard sentence range is 22 year to life, the Pierce County Prosecutor's Office will ask the judge to sentence Musga to 60 years to life.
"Nothing shocks the conscience more than the murder of a child," said Prosecutor Mark Lindquist. "We are asking the court for the functional equivalent of a life-sentence."
The sentencing is scheduled for November 21, 2013.
In his plea, Musga said he killed the child because he was angry that the boy urinated on him.
The medical examiner said the injuries suffered by C.C. were consistent with abuse and the autopsy revealed that the boy suffered more injuries than the M.E. could count.
Last March, a 911 caller reported Musga in the lobby of an apartment complex holding a boy who was not breathing.
The child was transported to a trauma center where medical staff said his condition was "catastrophically bad." C.C. showed no significant brain activity and was pronounced dead.
The 2-year-old had a blood alcohol level of 0.12.
