Tacoma Police are scouring streets near the Pierce County Courthouse, looking for the person who pistol-whipped a woman earlier today.

Police spokesman Mark Fulghum said the woman was walking near the intersection of South 8th Street and Tacoma Avenue at about 10 a.m. when a man tried to grab her purse. When he smacked her in the face with his revolver, the gun went off, Fulghum said. No one was hit.

Fulghum described the robber as a black male wearing a light gray sweatshirt and dark pants.
