Lakewood Police are looking for the driver who hit and killed a 19-year-old man Sunday morning and left the scene.
Police say the incident happened at about 5 a.m. on 96th St. South. The victim, Tauave Seiaute, lost control of his car, which ended up off the road.
The person who was with him said Seiaute got out and went into the road to try to flag down a passing driver for help.
Police say he was hit by a tan or white Ford Windstar-type minivan, which stopped briefly after the collision.
The passenger told police he yelled at the driver that he had hit the victim but the driver left the scene.
"I'm just heartbroken knowing he didn't have anyone next to him, with him, to hold his hand," said Seiaute's sister, Elaine Seiaute.
She and Seiaute's mother describe Tauave as funny and said he loved kids. He was planning on going back to school to get his diploma and liked working in his church.
"He had a part to play in the youth program. He was supposed to play Jesus," said Seiaute's mother. Theresa.
"Hopefully justice will be served," she said.
The driver of the van was described as being a “young-looking” white male and there were at least three other people in the van.
Police are asking the driver and passengers to come forward to report what happened.
