LAKEWOOD, Wash. – A police officer accused of embezzling money from a fund meant for the families of four murdered Lakewood police officers has been fired and is now under investigation for allegedly stealing money from the police officers' union.

The acting president of the Lakewood Police Officers Guild said Skeeter Timothy Manos is being investigated for taking a "significant" amount of money from the guild. The president would not give specific amounts.

The City of Lakewood announced Monday that City Manager Andrew Neiditz fired Manos Friday. It was based on a recommendation by police chief Bret Farrar.

Manos, 34, served as the treasurer of the Lakewood Police Independent Guild. He was arrested last week for allegedly embezzling more than $120,000 from the Fallen Officers’ Fund. The fund is intended to benefit the families of Sgt. Mark Renninger and officers Tina Griswold, Ronald Owens and Greg Richards, who were shot and killed by Maurice Clemmons in a coffee shop in November 2009.

Manos is charged with 10 federal felonies.

According to the criminal complaint, Manos set up a secret bank account for donations to the Lakewood Police Officers' families. He diverted approximately $151,000 intended for the families to this account. He then used about $120,000 from the account for purchases at Costco, Home Depot, for Alaska Airlines tickets to Las Vegas, and for cash withdrawals at various casinos.

The stolen money was just a portion of more than $3.2 million the public contributed for the benefit of the families of the murdered officers.

Foreclose his home. That is cold since it will probably make his wife and kids homeless and on Food Stamps. Give him a regular criminal sentence and put him in a real prison. Just because he was a cop does not merit special treatment like soft first offender status with a light sentence. No country club minimum security facility with weekend conjugal visits. Seize every asset he owns until damages are repaid. Garnish his wages when he gets released after doing his time. Filing for bankruptcy protection is not an option when criminal activities are involved. Employers will forever shun him for life. Embezzlement and on-the-job theft results in blacklisting more often than other crimes. The US Marshal cannot protect him since he isn't a federal snitch. They are paid to protect him but they do not respect them. What a loser!

Why was one person handling an account holding more than $3.2M? Where are the safeguards for the account? Who selected this officer to handle the funds? Why was it Manos couldn't live on $90K annually? I hope there is insurance to cover the loss or until they can require Manos to liquidate his assets and repay the stolen monies.

One have to question the competence of the Lakewood Police Independent Guild, their leadership. Why would someone like Timothy Manos be allowed or get voted in as a Treasurer to handle $3.2 Million in funds, when a credit check on Manos show his wages were being garnished because of $1,900 unpaid medical bills, $12,000 owed to Ford Motor Credit, has collections for unpaid bills in 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011?

Crooked cops. Do they come in any other way? If I'd been just a little dumber, I could have joined the force myself.

Get accused of stealing money from dead cop's fund: get fired tomorrow. Get accused of killing people with reckless disregard for life: years of paid vacation with benefits and sometimes a generous settlement from the taxpayers. Nice system we have here.

Non profit groups will always need more than one person to manage the money, when did this group audit anything? Probably never.... and... police ar always seeing this happen to other non profit groups, were they all asleep? Or that thought this policeman will never steal, policemen tell the truth all the time and always never do anything like stealing. Guess what? Hope other policemen get him to tell them where the money went as they interogate his behind. Remember to leave no marks or bruises nor any broken bones, He can be taken to a stairwell and fall down.

But he is a police officer, innocent until proven guilty with legal representation provided by the police union. How can he be fired with just an accusation?

Mr. Manos is a disgrace to law enforcement professionals around the world. Stealing money from the families of this horrific tragedy is unconscionable and to be done by someone who worked with these officers. I will be making additional donations to help the Lakewood families.

The fact of the matter is, nobody really knows how much he took. Not all the money was in checks or money orders. Large amounts were loose cash and change. So by blaming him, he will no doubt take the blame for more missing money than he actually took. Too many people had access to the fund. Too hard to prove he was the lone "gunman".

Amazing how fast they can fire a cop "accused: of theft when hes stealing from one of their own. Start firing all the dirty cops instead of letting them sit home on paid leave.

Why is only one person in charge of handling these donation? 3.2 Million in donations to this worthy fund? He is to blame but also so should be those affilliated with this fund for not keeping their eye on the "money ball."

It's funny that it seems to take all of heaven and earth to get a cop fired for wrongdoing against civilians. Endless "investigations" and paid leave. But man, steal from another cop, or their families and they move quicker than a hiccup. At least they did the right thing in the end.
