Pierce County authorities are waiting for blood and toxicology results to decide whether they should charge a 22-year-old Puyallup man in a fatal accident Friday morning.
His pick-up truck was loaded with seven people when it left the road in the 20800 block of 22nd Avenue East in Spanaway.
All the passengers were in the truck’s extended cab as the vehicle rolled over. At least two passengers were ejected and impaled by posts in a chain link fence.
One female passenger, a 22-year-old from Auburn, was pinned under the roof of the truck. She was declared dead at the scene.
Pierce County sheriff’s detectives said beer cans were found in the truck. They blame high speed and alcohol for the crash.
Resident Kyle Ernst tried to help the victims, but there was not much he could do.
“In the past 10 years, we’ve had 15 people wreck through our property and 90 percent of them were drinking and driving,” said Ernst.
The six surviving victims’ injuries are said to be non-life threatening.
