TACOMA -- State Farm has announced it will hire 500 people to work in downtown Tacoma in an effort to expand operations.

The company is hosting a two day job fair beginning Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Hotel Murano downtown. A representative for the company says the positions are in claim handling and processing that “focus on customer service.”

Applicants should visit www.statefarm.com/careers to fill out an application and then come to the job fair prepared to interview with recruiters and department managers. College degrees are not required and many will be hired on the spot, Hilliard said.

State Farm announced in late April plans to expand its operations to downtown Tacoma. It said it initially would hire about 300 people and will ultimately employ 1,100 people here.
