SEATTLE -- A wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 in downtown Seattle early Friday morning sent both drivers to the hospital and blocked traffic.
A driver was initially spotted driving in the wrong direction on I-90, said Washington State Patrol. That driver turned onto I-5 where he headed northbound in the southbound lanes and crashed into a Dodge Durango near the Convention Center.
Investigators believe the driver may have been traveling four miles in the wrong-direction before crashing into another car.
Authorities said the wrong-way driver appeared to be in serious condition and the other driver suffered no serious injuries. Troopers, however, said the wrong-way driver's condition worsened when he reached the hospital.
Several southbound I-5 lanes were closed during the investigation; they have since reopened.
Investigators are determining whether alcohol was a factor.
