Drivers in West Seattle are preparing to deal with another major road closure around the West Seattle Bridge this weekend.
WSDOT plans to close the ramps from the West Seattle Bridge to northbound and southbound I-5 and South Columbian Way starting at 10 p.m. Friday. Unlike most closures, crews will work through Monday. However, Monday is a holiday and fewer cars are expected, so congestion is expected to be limited.
WSDOT will be replacing a series of steel expansion joints that hold the West Seattle Bridge together. It says the joints are 50 years old and are falling apart faster than maintenance crews can do repairs.
The projects costs around $4.5 million.
Seven additional closures are expected through May on this stretch.
"We are about a third of the way done with this project," says Jamie Holter, WSDOT Spokeswoman. "The really tough weekend will be the end of march the first week of April."
Drivers who have had to deal with several road closures for the past year, are rolling their eyes over yet another detour.
"It's been challenging," says Greg Probst."We've just had to be patient. Easier said than done."
