A Metro bus driver was shot in downtown Seattle on Monday morning and the suspect died of injuries after being shot by police.

Although cases of drivers being attacked are rare, safety on buses has been a concern for decades.

If you look at the numbers, 400,000 passenger trips on a peak day, but only 52 driver assaults in the first half of 2013. It's clear buses are relatively safe.

Still, a shooting like this has drivers thinking about what to do and passengers wondering whether to ride.
