Officials from the Washington State Department of Transportation were in Osaka, Japan, on Thursday to witness testing of the world's largest-diameter tunnel boring machine. Named Bertha, the five-story-tall machine will be shipped to Seattle to dig the tunnel that will replace the waterfront section of the SR 99 Alaskan Way Viaduct.
