SEATTLE -- A Seattle boat auction has left the city a little underwater.
The Seattle Times reported Friday that the city was able to auction off a vintage fireboat for about $25,000, but only after spending more than $35,000 prepping it for sale.
The 123-foot fireboat Alki went to auction last week, drawing interest from 18 different bidders. The boat had previously gone to auction, but the winning bidder in that sale backed out of the deal because officials hadn't done a marine survey on the vessel.
The 1927 boat was the oldest vessel in the Seattle Fire Department's Marine Emergency Response Team.
