The Seattle City Council on Wednesday received an update on whether truck safety has improved at the Port of Seattle -- concerns highlighted by KING 5's "Risky Rigs" investigation.

Seattle Police told the council's Public Safety Committee that officers are still seeing trucks with serious safety problems hauling loads to and from the port.

The KING 5 Investigators found that these trucks have the worst safety records in the state.

SPD said increased inspections have improved truck safety, but officers still pull from the road about a third of trucks inspected.

Councilmember Mike O'Brien said he is considering legislation to target problem shipping and trucking companies.
