SEATTLE -- The Seattle Center is taking out loans as three tenants owe nearly $1 million in back rent.

Bumbershoot owes the center around $200,000. Intiman Theatre, which isn't operating at the moment, owes nearly $300,000. The Seattle Childrens Museum owes the most, at nearly half a million dollars.

Consequentially, the Seattle Center will take out a $1 million short term city loan and re-negotiate with some tenants.

The center will also cut some public events.

Why not turn the Key Arena back into the Coliseum and get some of the acts that are going to the Indian Casinos. Lots of music and comedy acts are by-passing Seattle. The Coliseum used to be a big time venue for acts in Seattle. Not only would revenue come from tickets sales and lease but from people busing in and restaurants and businesses around Seattle.

Another example of government dabbling in private ownership. Time to sell it. Get it off the backs of taxpayers. Let some corporation run it.

See what happens when you don't have an NBA BASKETBALL TEAM to float your deadbeat renters until they can pay up to keep the Center up and running? Now you, the City Council, are learning the REAL price of your shortsightedness.
