SEATTLE -- Seattle police believe a gunman remains on the run after a woman was grazed by a bullet in downtown on Monday afternoon.

SWAT officers searched a low-income housing building near the King County courthouse Monday evening as they tried to locate the source of the gunshots. After that search, police spokesman Jeff Kappel told The Seattle Times that no weapon was found and there have been no arrests.

Kappel said the injured woman was hit in the hip or leg but did not suffer a life-threatening injury. He said police heard several gunshots and one shot apparently was fired into an office building that houses several county agencies.

The injured woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center. She reportedly was shot at Third and Yesler.

Pedestrians were cleared from the area and buses were temporarily rerouted.

In the video at the top of the article is a cop looking through the scope of a rifle. What kind of rifle is that? At first I thought it was an Italian WWII Carcano. On closer look it isn't. Anyone know that rifle? The bolt sticks straight out. Hard to tell caliber but it looks like a bull barrel, maybe .223.

@CaptainLarry: My "mayor banned guns" comment was a sarcastic attempt to make fun of the mayor who tried to ban guns in the city and public parks. I am fully aware of the 2nd Amendment and my constitutional rights. Banning guns doesn't keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

Looks like they better find witnesses, if that Vancouver riot news story I was commenting on serves as an example, this guy has no incentive from the system to turn himself in.

Uh, there are gun free zones, they are called schools. We need to greatly increase the penalty for unlawful possession or use. And stop the willing blindness of the rampant crime in the one block radius surrounding the courthouse.

If police are looking for the shooter, they might try looking at SPD HQ

BTW there can't be "gun free zones" it's unconstitutional. And that is a victory for freedom.

Gotta tell ya watching this on the news last night was almost comical. The Seattle PD has no "center". They either do nothing or turn out like they are running a company size combat mission. Can somebody please be incharge of them?

This definitely calls for downtown to be designated to be a gun-free zone.

c8lsonics said, "How is this possible?! I thought the mayor banned guns!" I am still confused on why c8lsonics said that. I certainly hope he wasn't commenting about the picture of the shooter above this article.

c8lsonics said, "How is this possible?! I thought the mayor banned guns!" Maybe the shooter didn't know Seattle's mayor banned guns in his city. You know our civilization is going to hell when criminals don't obey the laws.

@ c8lsonics. OK, clearly you were not paying attention during U.S History class in high school. America has this defining document written by the Founding Fathers of our Nation. It prescribes in detail how we are to govern ourselves, it is The Constitution of the United States of America. There is a section of written law called the Amendments to the Constitution. The Second Amendment gives all U.S. citizens the right to keep and bear arms. No silly U.S. Mayor, no matter how much he would like to, can "ban guns" that is illegal and the few cities that have tried to do an end around on our most sacred document have been slapped back down by the U.S. Supreme Court. Thousands of good, honest, law abiding citizens carry guns (concealed) every day and I am willing to bet that at least one of them walks past you each day and you are none the wiser. :)

@c8lsonics it's possible because the mayor banned guns. By the way, did the mayor ban guns? Seriously?

I wonder what had happened, my mom and I work in downtown three days a week (as janitors) I take 4th avenue, first thing in my mind was a suspicious package or a bomb threat. Driving back home I even saw the armored vehicle, I had not seen it in the city before. I hope the women is OK.
