The Seattle Police Department confirms that Chief John Diaz has packed up and moved out of his office on the 9th floor of police headquarters in downtown Seattle and that Asst. Chief Jim Pugel will move in Monday to take over.

Pugel will officially become the Acting Chief on Monday, and then Interim Chief once Diaz officially retires in June.

Diaz is burning some vacation time before he retires, but is not expected to be involved in running the police department during that time.

John Diaz announced his retirement in April.
