Officials at Seattle's Nathan Hale High School sent out a call to families, alerting them the school's principal had been assaulted by a student Thursday morning.
According to the call, principal Dr. Jill Hudson was assaulted in the school's cafeteria by a student returning from a three-day suspension. Staff members called 911 and the student was arrested.
Dr. Hudson was not seriously hurt and no one else was injured.
School officials said the student will be not allowed back at the school.
