Drivers who get stuck in the intersection at Mercer Street and Dexter Avenue -- part of the so-called Mercer Mess -- are now getting ticketed.
Five police officers were stationed to pull over cars that blocked the intersection Tuesday. They gave out at least a dozen $124 tickets to drivers for blocking traffic.
The intersection is a gridlock with five streets converging. It's a nightmare for drivers and traffic control officers.
"The city created the mess and now the public is paying for the city's mistakes," said driver Mark Hamilton of Kirkland.
Some drivers had reported that it would take them a half-hour to get through the intersection, partly because of other drivers who would block it.
