A man was killed Monday morning after being hit by a Metro bus in Seattle.
The Seattle Fire Department said it happened just after 6 a.m. near 11th Avenue and Pine Street in the Capitol Hill neighborhood near Cal Anderson Park.
The pedestrian was not in the crosswalk.
Seattle police say there were three people on the bus, but it doesn't appear any passengers witnessed the collision. Investigators are checking to see if the driver was impaired, which is standard procedure.
In a statement released Monday afternoon, Metro said the driver was hired in October 2010 and was "very shaken up" by the incident. Metro investigators were also looking into the events that led up to the fatal collision.
Metro routes 10 and 11 to downtown Seattle were rerouted as a result.
