SEATTLE - One year later police are still searching for suspect in the death of a well known Seattle salon owner. Thursday night Danny Vega's family and friends gathered to honor him and seek justice for his murder.
Vega, was taking an evening walk on Nov. 15, 2011 in Seattle's Rainier Valley neighborhood when he was attacked and beaten unconscious in an apparent robbery. Vega was hospitalized with severe injuries to his kidneys, liver and brain. He fell into a coma and died 12 days later.
Thursday night, Deputy Chief Nick Metz told a crowd of Vega's family and friends, "my first emotion is frustration that we haven't solved this case yet. My second emotion is the tremendous pride I feel in seeing all of you here."
The group passed out flyers with Vega's picture in an effort to turn up new leads.
Melanie Galimba, Vega's niece, said, "for him not to be here for this Thanksgiving and Christmas is heartbreaking. He meant the world to us. He means a lot to other people. He truly didn't deserve that and we really miss him."
Crimestoppers and Vega's family are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction in the case.
