People who claim they were woken up out of a dead sleep in West Seattle by a hum are telling the truth.
How do I know this? I'm now one of them.
I found myself wandering around my house at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, bewildered by whatever it was rattling the air around me.
I know what you're thinking. But I was a skeptic too when the story first came out. How could a bunch of people complain about hearing a strange hum, or how could everyone think they're hearing the same thing?
Well, there's really no mistaking it. It's not quiet. It might be a low tone, but that sound just doesn't let up.
Finally hearing it for myself, I don't think there's any way fish could make that noise (which is also what a UW researcher says). I live at the top of a hill, right in the middle of the Duwamish River and Puget Sound. Pretty far from water, but the sound is probably funneled up through my neighborhood.
Could that be what's behind the West Seattle hum? Who knows. Does it bother me? Not really, but I also tend to go back to sleep easier than others.

The only thing that will help pinpoint the source is more reports from people who hear it (and insist they aren't crazy).
