The deadline has come and gone for campers at Nickelsville to move out of their camp.
The Seattle City Council voted in July to close the homeless encampment’s site along Marginal Way W in Seattle. The group has now moved to three new sites: at 22nd and Union St., 20th and Jackson St., and Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and 129th.
It was a long day of packing for residents, as the camp was nearly fully intact Sunday morning. Anyone found still camping will be charged with trespassing, although Nickelsville leaders say the city is giving them three extra days to clean up.
The three new sites are all in much more residential areas, and many neighbors weren’t aware of the homeless encampments moving in. Reaction is mixed, but most neighbors KING5 spoke with were not pleased.
