SEATTLE -- Part of Highway 99 across the Aurora Bridge was closed Tuesday evening for an investigation into a head-on collision.

Officers said a box truck driving southbound on Aurora crossed the center line near North 38th Street, hitting an SUV driving in the northbound lanes head-on.

The driver of the box truck, a 24-year-old man, is suspected of driving under the influence. Police said he faces possible charges of vehicular assault.

The suspect and a 70-year-old man driving the SUV were taken to Harborview Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

Because Highway 99 remains congested, many drivers are turning off onto Mercer Street, backing up traffic around the I-5 Mercer on-ramps.
