SEATTLE -- Leaders of local nonprofits are hoping people “GiveBIG” Tuesday. The Seattle Foundation organized the online campaign to raise money for over 1,600 local nonprofits. The GiveBIG fundraiser kicked off at midnight and has already raised millions of dollars.
“It just creates a level of excitement in the community that is unmatched by anything else,” said Mary Grace Roske, spokesperson for The Seattle Foundation.
In just one hour Tuesday morning, organizers received more than $1 million in donations. A portion of the donations will be matched and given to the nonprofits.
“We talk about GiveBIG as a King County event, but it draws participation from all 50 states as well as 30 to 40 countries around the world,” said Roske.
GiveBIG is a 24-hour online charitable giving event. Last year, The Seattle Foundation raised $11.1 million for nonprofits. The donation website has a list of the nonprofits involved in the fundraiser, which ends at midnight.
